Middle School Twizzle?

Yes, it is the middle of the summer. I'm not one to usually think of Winter Olympic sports in July, but for some reason, the word twizzle popped into my mind as I was thinking about my new classroom blog. I knew I'd heard it somewhere, and so of course I went and Googled it. Sure enough, a twizzle is that fabulous word that describes a "multirotational one-foot turn in figure skating" (thanks, Wikipedia).

It took me a little while, but then it clicked.  A lot of what we do in middle school is much like a twizzle. It takes a lot of practice and effort to get it right, we sometimes fall smack on our bottoms, but when it all comes together - shazam! It's quite amazing! Sometimes we twizzle on our own, but many times we're working together in tandem. And as we twizzle away, we turn in our understandings and our viewpoints.

I hope this blog will be a place where my students and I will showcase our twizzles to you. Whether it be our latest writing, updates on what we're learning in math, or our evolving opinions about our topics of study, I hope you find it interesting.
